Founder Sue Kellogg

When I was 8 yrs old my Dad bought me a pony for my birthday. He still says it was the worst $65 he ever spent! I grew up in Michigan, with horses in the backyard and riding at a barn 10 minutes from the house. Hadley Hill Farm was my second home for many years. I started lessons there when I was 9, started showing when I was 10, and started teaching when I was 14. I came back after graduating with my BA in philosophy, and became a Professional Horseman in the Michigan Hunter Jumper Association.

My career was thwarted by health issues (allergies & asthma), and I was told by my doctors that if I kept myself in the horse world full-time, I would permanently damage my lungs. Knowing that wasn’t a good choice, I found a graduate program in advertising at Michigan State University. With my MA in hand, I entered the world of Corporate America and ended up in Southern California. Hours were long and not rewarding, and thus after 4 ½ years I came back into the horse world.

After about 2 years under other trainers in California, I was able to step out on my own, moving my business to Coto de Caza Equestrian Center. Thus the Kellogg Equestrian Academy was officially born.
